Sad to see the excellent Luthor arc wrapped up but maybe this Reign of the Doomsdays will pick up now that Paul Cornell's the sole writer handling it. If nothing else, we get the beautiful art of Kenneth Rockafort.

Part 2 of the Spidey/Avengers Academy team-up! Which means I should probably read Part 1 today.
Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #6 (OF 6)
Maybe the craziest thing I've ever read by Jason Aaron and good gravy do I love it. So very, very sad to see this end. Huge ideas by Jason, breathtaking art by Adam Kubert, great mix of humor and action. I'm glad Jason and Adam will be working together again on an issue of X-Men: Scism but darn it if I wouldn't just love them to continue doing these balls-out team-ups.

"Gulag" continues! As does the pre-film transitioning of Steve Rogers back into the role of Captain America.

Someone has misplaced a whale! And a dead person! Batman is on the case. Scott Snyder and Jock give me the only Batman comic I need. (and then Scott adds Gates of Gotham to that just to make me feel extra good)

The conclusion of the thing with the tree and the guy and the stuff. I hope if this linewide post-Flashpoint reboot ends up being a real thing, we get an Oliver Queen that's actually worth reading. My devotion to the character only stretches so far and the mystery behind the forest and the White Lantern engery in this Brightest Day tie-in was really the only thing keeping me coming back.

You know I was considering getting Strange Adventures just for the Ultra the Multi-Alien story, but then I realized Spaceman would be starting in it. Not that I have anything against the creators. I have a bad habit of seeing a story to it's conclusion and I want to keep my expenses down, especially considering I have no idea what my pull list is going to look like come September. I mean I am already adding Wonder Woman, I said I would pick up it after this latest revamp ends and I meant it.
ReplyDeleteAlso this may just be me but I think a Green Arrow like from Batman: the Brave and the Bold would be fun. Or maybe even do something with that awesome SuperMax movie idea DC has had laying around for years.
I get what you mean, regarding Spaceman. I just figured, if I dug the story in Strange Adventures enough, I'd pick up the trades down the road.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about this vow to read Wonder Woman after the JMS revamp wraps. I'd have to see who the new creative team was, first.
I'd totally be down with a more lighthearted Green Arrow. And SuperMax seemed like a really cool idea. If they aren't going anywhere with that screenplay, they might as well put it in the comics.
Well I just figured since I got up in arms about the revamp I should at least start reading the character when it wraps up. Also there are very few creators that factor in anyway to if I get a comic or not, either because I like their work or have issues with them. Plus since I am already getting Wonder Woman and the Furies I may as well keep going with her.
ReplyDeleteAlso on the subject of SuperMax I wish there were more superhero movies like that. I mean I don't care for most superhero movies since they end up being rehashes of existing stories. If you are going to make a movie come up with an original story, if you need an actual example of how awesome this can be just look at Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Which by the way has one of the greatest movie posters ever.
