OCW - McDuffie Tribute: Milestone Characters

Jon Frank's DMZ & Dogg
Jon is another of our Lincoln friends who was able to contribute for this go around. At this rate it'll be a full blown "Symmetry" reunion. I'll admit, I knew nothing of this guy... a true OCW! Thanks Jon, this looks great! Hope we get to see more. Editor's Note: the dog is actually named Dogg and was ALSO a character in the Blood Syndicate. Justice League never had a talking cat or nothing!

OCW- Feb 27- Dwayne McDuffie

Dwayne wrote Marvel's DAMAGE CONTROL.
Issue #1 featured the origin of Randolf Rex...
who gained the power to be "cosmically anal-retentive."

yeah. ok...

OCW - McDuffie Tribute: Milestone Characters

Dwayne had his hand in so much of what I love in comics and animation. Justice League Unlimited will forever live in my memory as a love letter to the DCU. Dwayne will be missed. For my OCW contribution... I went with my 2 favorite Milestone characters, visually. Icon has a Superman taste and Static is so visually dynamic and "electric"... I couldn't avoid the appeal.

OCW - McDuffie Tribute: Milestone Characters

Jack Irons' OCW: Holocaust
For the OCW, we at CBXF felt the need to pay homage to Dwayne McDuffie,
who passed earlier this week. It just happened that I had enlisted some artistic help from some long time Lincoln friends! We welcome the new
blood and look forward to seeing their takes on future OCW.
This looks great, Jack! Thanks for the contribution!

Comics/Animation Lose a Hero

By now most have heard of the passing of Dwayne McDuffie, well known creator and writer of many comics and cartoons. Some of his credits... Justice League the cartoon on Cartoon Network as well as the Justice League of America comic book, founding creator of Milestone Comics, and most recently, wrote the story to the animated All Star Superman for DC.

We didn't know anything about him personally, but professionally, he touched so much of what we love... Its truly sad and an incredible tragedy. We at CBXF feel loss... a terrible void.  And we never even met the man.

In tribute, this week's OCW will be any character from the Milestone Universe that was co-created by Dwayne. If you'd also like to contribute, please send a jpeg of your image to Comicbxf@yahoo.com

She's best known for her work on Friday Night Lights, Adrianne Palicki is the David E. Kelly version of Wonder Woman. The Whole story is here.

OCW - February - Week 2: The Fly

I really tried to "retro" color this... but the Fly is visually one on my favorites to draw so far. Thanks for picking this one, Dr. G!!

OCW "The Fly" by Simon and Kirby

The choice this week was mine and since I've been reading "Simon and Kirby's Superheroes" book, I decided to go with "the Fly" from the mid-60s (Archie Comics, I think...)

Tracie & Robb Emailed Comic Banter: First Class Trailer

Robb: Ya see the X-men First Class trailer?

I'm interested. Looks overall good... But I thought they were "distancing" themselves from the original 3 Xmovies. (And Wolverine...Is that considered same universe?)

Tracie & Robb Emailed Comic Banter

Sometimes Tracy and I will have Comic discussion that gets pretty in depth over email. Last week's reveal of Spider-man joining the Fantastic Four sparked quite a conversation.

Tracie: It makes sense for Spider-Man to join the Future Foundation. Especially with Johnny's death. I do find it unnecessary that he's on 2 of the 3 Avengers teams, though. I was hoping that would be addressed in the otherwise wonderful membership issue (New Avengers #7). I prefer having him in New just because he's so adorable playing off of Luke Cage but his scenes with Spider-Woman in Avengers are also delightful. (it was perfect when New Avengers had all of them together) I think if they took him out of Avengers, it would be fine.

The BEST Action Figure Name: Todd Rice

Late last night we stopped at Walmart and per usual I have to look through the Toy section. My favorite has always been the Mattel line of DC "75" years of Superpowers. For the most part, I don't have any complaints, but who decided to not put "Obsidian's" name on the box? Really? Is there a law-suit somewhere, like when they couldn't use Captain Atom? Or when Superman and the Legion cartoon was out? I want to know... why?

OCW - February - Week 1: Stan Lee Presents The Flash

This week's OCW was my pick and I went with obscure characters with famous names... Stan Lee Presents: The DC "Just Imagine" line of Heroes. DC asked Stan to take the names of heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc... and "Marvel-ize" them... make them his own creation. This is what transpired. Enjoy!

Chaaaat WoMANNNN! (in my worst Adam West voice)
