Tracie's Pull List - Week of November 9, 2011

NOTHING ELSE MATTERS BECAUSE AVENGING SPIDER-MAN IS OUT TOMORROW.

WHY WONT OUR BLOG TEMPLATE ALLOW ME TO MAKE THIS AN ANNOYINGLY LARGE FONT SIZE???

OH WELL, LET'S JUST TALK ABOUT AVENGING SPIDER-MAN AND ALSO OTHER COMICS I GUESS.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #1

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For those who don't know me that well, I count Joe Madureira as my favorite comic artist of all time. His 1994-1997 run on Uncanny X-Men (plus the 1993 Deadpool mini-series) changed me, both as a comics fan and as an artist. (actually, it was the placemat he did for Pizza Hut's X-Men promotion that first got my attention) As the story goes, when Joe ended his X-Men run, he and Jeph Loeb pitched a stand-alone, continuity-free Spider-Man series to Marvel which they turned down, prompting Joe to leave Marvel and co-found Cliffhanger with his creator-owned series, Battle Chasers, leaving that a couple years later to design videogames. Allegedly, if the Spider-Man series had been picked up, he would have never left Marvel. Well, now, here we are, it's nearing 2012, and Joe Madureira is drawing a stand-alone Spider-Man series (or thinly veiled Marvel Team-Up series) with one of my favorite writers, Zeb Wells. To say this is something I am looking forward to is underselling it by a lot. One of his last issues of Uncanny X-Men was a stand-alone story of Spider-Man teaming up with Marrow and it was basically, "We're turning Uncanny X-Men into a Spider-Man comic for a month" and is maybe my favorite issue of his entire run. The guy draws a helluva Spidey, a helluva Peter Parker, and a helluva J. Jonah Jameson. I know how most of you felt about Ultimates 3 but this? This is the sauce. BONUS: The first three issues of this series come with codes for free downloads of those issues. Free digital copy with every purchase? Now you're finally starting to market comics the same as DVDs.

AVENGING SPIDER-MAN BY JOE MADUREIRA POSTER

I am going to hang this over my bed.

BATGIRL #3

You are still on probation, Batgirl, but you're doing alright.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #3

Patrick Gleason is too amazing. Green Lantern Corps is poorer without him, but hot dang does he deserve a top tier book like this.

BATTLE SCARS #1 (OF 6)

I'm unsure if I'm picking this up. I'm unclear what it's about, exactly, other than there's a mystery character that Marvel heroes and villains are after and that it spins out of Fear Itself in some fashion. I'll give it a flip.

BATWOMAN #3

We have three issues of Batwoman! Will I ever stop being impressed that this book exists?

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: SEASON 9 (STEVE MORRIS COVER) #3

The Buffy Season 9 comic feels so much more like a Buffy comic than Season 8 seemed to, even though I thought Season 8 still had some great stories. This makes me happy.

DOLLHOUSE: EPITAPHS #5 (OF 5)

The conclusion of the excellent Epitaphs series! Good post-apocalyptic fun without all that sex slave stuff that weirds you people out so much. You people.

FEAR ITSELF #7.2

Matt Fraction! Adam Kubert! How does Fear Itself change things for the Thor comics?

FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #3

If anything, I think this comic could be crazier. And maybe it's getting there. It's off to a good start.

GREEN LANTERN #3

Same as I said last month, it feels good that Green Lantern is fun to read again and operating on it's own helps a lot. Thank you for the moratorium on crossovers for the time being.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #631

TEEN LOKIIIIIIII!!!!!!!! <3 <3 <3

MEGA MAN #7

Hot dang I love this Mega Man comic, you guys. COMICS KEEP ME YOUNG.

NEW AVENGERS #18

The New Dark Avengers! Remember those guys from when they were in all of your comics?

POINT ONE #1

THE SUPER IMPORTANT MARVEL COMIC THAT NOBODY IS AWARE IS IMPORTANT, I GUESS. A big ol' "Here's all of our top creators giving you stories that kick of Marvel 2012." Bendis and Hitch teasing their big Ultron story, Loeb and McGuinness doing something with Nova maybe? (Related to their Cable book?) Fraction and Dodson kicking off Defenders, Yost and Stegman revealing their new Scarlet Spider, the teasing of the new Age of Apocalypse comic, something from Brubaker, and a host of other stories in a 64 page one-shot.

SUPERBOY #3

I didn't think #2 was quite as much fun as #1 but R.B. Silva's art still sells it.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #4

I get Joe Mad (Parker)Spidey and Sara Pichelli (Morales)Spidey in the same week? You are spoiling me, Marvel.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #17

Speaking of Age of Apocalypse! Or rather, Age of Archangel.
