Tracie's Pull List - Week of September 14, 2011

Look, I know pretty much the only thing I talked about to anyone, last week, was DC's first wave of new books--but you know what?

Pretty sure the only thing I'm going to want to talk about this week is Miles Morales, the new Ultimate Spider-Man.

So, thank you Marvel.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #669

Part 3 of the wonderfully entertaining Spider-Island! PLUS the mysterious villain behind it all revealed? You just shush, Internet.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #1

My beloved GLC team of Tomasi and Gleason return to the title they were meant to have taken over already. And instead of the Dick and Damien team we have somewhat begrudgingly come to adore, we now have Damien getting the father-son bonding he's long wished for. Will be interesting getting used to a different Batman/Robin dynamic but I trust this team to handle it with finesse.

BATWOMAN #1

It's the LOOOOOONNNNNG awaited debut of the Batwoman series by J.H. Williams! FINALLY we may have this eye-meltingly gorgeous book on a monthly basis. (especially since they've had so many, many months to get ahead on this series)

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 JO CHEN VARIANT COVER #1

Joss is back! Buffy's back! Tracie is happy.

COMPLETE MAJOR BUMMER SUPER SLACKTACULAR TP

I've wanted this to exist for a long time. Major Bummer was something I'd only read one or two stray issues of (thanks, quarter bins) but I've become such a big fan of John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke over the years, I've very much wanted the chance to read this long-forgotten but critically beloved comic series from two of the creators behind The Mask's popularity. Funny enough, this series was originally published by DC, but it's Mask publishers, Dark Horse, that are releasing this collection.

DAREDEVIL #3

Daredevil versus Klaw? More genius from Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera. Let's just give Daredevil all of the awards now, please.

DOLLHOUSE EPITAPHS PHIL NOTO CVR #3 (OF 5)

As a follow-up to the Dollhouse series, it's great, but this is a mighty fine comic in it's own right.

FEAR ITSELF #6 (OF 7)

Things've gotten pretty fricking dour but the internet tells me this is the best issue of the series, yet.

FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF S.H.A.D.E. #1

The Flashpoint mini was pretty good but I think somewhat hampered by the fact that it was a 3 issue Flashpoint mini. Now Jeff Lemire has the chance to spread out and really do something. There were some great ideas introduced in the Flashpoint book and I don't know how much of that will be carried over to this new continuity but I already love that Frankenstein has a Japanese schoolgirl/Crazy 88 sidekick.

GREEN LANTERN #1

The Green Lantern that you think is Green Lantern isn't Green Lantern! The GL books kinda started dragging their feet as the DC Universe of old was winding down. It's nice to hear that Johns and Mahnke might be reinvigorated in The New 52.

JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #627

Teen Loki continues to assemble his Hell Army and Mephisto walks into a bar! (where, I assume, priest jokes await him)

NEW AVENGERS #16

HEY, remember how Daredevil is now one of the best books being published? Well that dude's finally an Avenger now. WAY TO GET YOUR LIFE BACK TOGETHER, MATT!

SPIDER-ISLAND AMAZING SPIDER-GIRL #2 (OF 3)

Dear Marvel, please let Spider-Girl keep her powers and don't let the Kingpin and Hobgoblin kill her please, thank you.

SUPERBOY #1

I've been kind of "eh" about this whole reinvention of Superboy thing-- I like Lobdell and R.B. Silva did amazing work on Jimmy Olsen-- but I didn't know if I wanted a rehash of the Young Justice cartoon (where Superboy is perhaps the least enjoyable character). But then I read about who one of the supporting characters in the comic is and now I'm excited again.

ULTIMATE COMICS SPIDER-MAN #1

IT'S HERE IT'S HERE MILES MORALES IS HERE!!!! Look, Ultimate Spider-Man is probably my favorite comic series of all time. I'm not just jumping on the bandwagon due to the hype surrounding it. If anyone has any real reason to be upset about the turn of events, it should be me. But I'm not. Peter had a heroic death, couldn't ask for better, the aftermath was treated remarkably well, and now I couldn't be more excited for this new chapter. I loved Miles Morales' debut and I love that Peter's death could inspire a person like Miles to be a hero. It's nice to have a comic about heroes being heroes and inspiring others, not just dudes ripping off other dudes' arms and faces or whatever. OH-- and Sara Pichelli is a brilliant artist.

UNCANNY X-FORCE #15

Y'know what? I was totally about to hit "publish" when I realized I just stopped writing after Ultimate Spider-Man and totally forgot about X-Force. I AM SORRY, X-FORCE. I HAVE FORSAKEN YOU. Which is extra crummy of me because X-Force is SOOOO GOOOOOD. But. C'mon. My heart's with Miles, this week.

  1. You know I am with Tracie on Superboy. Wasn't looking forward to it but now with the knowledge of "Red" being around I am tempted. Also I may end up getting Teen Titans now too since I could see "Red" and company pop up there at some point.
