MOST EXHAUSTING PLANET COMICON EVER!!!

And it's not until I get home that I remember all the people I meant to go back and talk to, amidst all the rabble and shifting body temperatures.

SORRY, PEOPLE I WANTED TO GO BACK AND TALK TO! Next year, maybe it'll be not so crazy. Fingers crossed for a blizzard! (not really) (NO)

Still, it was great to be surrounded by comics, comic fans, professionals, and friends for a few hours.

ALSO, Firehouse Subs? THUMBS UP. I recommend the New York Steamer.

Ugh. I want lunch now.

My Review of "I Kill Giants" and Man of Action at Planet Comicon KC

Man of Action...
Have you ever met a celebrity or personal hero and been disappointed? Sometimes they don’t live up to expectations or turn out to be a jerk. Well, for the Man of Action studio team… I have nothing but great things to say. The most genuine and down to earth group of creators that I’ve had the ability to speak with in our time with Comicbook Crossfire. I felt like as a group they understood and appreciated their influence that held the attention of so many children globally. Kids that were at their panel as well as their booth at the show were greeted with silliness and appreciation. Free comic book hand outs and immediate attention to their biggest fans each time someone young would ask a question or have the courage to come to their booth.  In short, Man of Action uses their powers for good! And we at CBXF found this incredibly endearing and commanded nothing but respect! Thank you Steven, Joe and Duncan for your presence at Kansas City's Planet Comicon!

Having said all that, during their Man of Action/Ben 10 panel, Steven T. Seagle mentioned many times about a book his partner, Joe Kelly had written that had received a ton of acclaim. Now Tracie had mention “I Kill Giants” multiple times to me. But non-superhero comic fiction usually takes a back seat for me. Its not that I don’t like it, but its not the first thing I read. So it wasn’t until I heard the rave review of his colleague did it click, “Maybe I should check this out?” I’m a monster big fan of Kelly’s “What’s so funny about Truth, Justice, and the American way.” So why not? Kelly was grateful for my purchase at his booth and said, “I’m very proud of this book” as he signed my copy of the large graphic novel.

This book has been out for a couple of years, but that last thing I want to do is spoil it for anyone. I think if you have any desire to read this, please do not go any further. Any critique of the content will reveal parts that make this book special, and if you want the impact that I had. Please do not read after the jump. So my overall general take on the book. “IT’s DAMN GREAT!”  Now go buy this book.

Preacher Movie

So, I'm a huge fan of Garth Ennis' DC Vertigo story, Preacher. Rumors have gone on forever of a possible HBO series, or a movie. DC & HBO... this movie could be the next big series. The Next Walking Dead. I would love to see this show come to life! Jack... I owe my love of this series to you. I hope you liked this love letter!

OCW - DC's Steppenwolf

Yes, can you believe it... another OCW! Its been a while. So Darkseid had this evil Uncle who kinda raised him, only when ol'Stoneface came of age. He made Steppenwolf (Not the band) the leader of his military forces. So, there is some cool "mythic" backgrounds to Darkseid and the entire New Gods pantheon. If you like to learn more about Steppenwolf, check out this link.

Once again, Comicbook Crossfire is going to Planet Comicon! Be it rain, sleet, snow, or blazing hot sun. (the Midwest is weird)

If you find yourself at this excellent Kansas City area con, catch us and say hi! Compliment Robb's shirt! Ask if we want to "get in on that" while gesturing at a very uncomfortable Tracie.

Planet Comicon is always a memorable time for Comicbook Crossfire and this year is sure to be no different.

Robb's Pick for Cover of the Month of February

As you know, I pick my favorite cover from the books I purchase each month... and each month is a struggle. I went in a weird direction this month. I had stopped collecting JLI 3 issues ago, and for some reason it appeared in my order... And I have to say, I love this Finch team pose! Just cool, so there.  As for my runner up, Amy Reeder's art is way under appreciated and this cover is so eye catching to me!

Tracie's Pull List - Week of March 7, 2012

So, Robb, Matt, and I had a lot of fun in Lincoln, last week, at the opening of Graphic Violence: The Art of Comic Book Fight Scenes at Doc's Place in the Haymarket. Hello to anybody who we met there or who managed to wander onto the blog from the fliers we had strewn around.

If you haven't checked it out and find yourself in the Lincoln, NE area sometime in the month of March, pop down to Doc's and check out a lot of sweet comic book art-- and also my stuff.
