It appears to be more than rumor. Not only did DC hit a home run with last summer's announcement that the sequel to Man of Steel will be Superman vs. Batman. But, one of the rumors that has been listed is that Batman Jones will also appear in this film.
The entire rumor appears to be based on nothing more substantive than Warner Bros. putting out a casting call for a tall man or woman. Given that the identity of the mysterious Batman Jones is unknown, the character could be portrayed by either a man or a woman. So the evidence is clear. The next major DC character to make it to big screen will be the legendary BATMAN JONES!
Variety got the opportunity to put the question directly to Warner Bros.’ president of creative development Greg Silverman, who rather artfully didn’t actually reveal anything beyond that Warner Bros. has thought about it.
“We have been doing a lot of thinking for years about how to best use this character because we absolutely love him,” said Silverman. “Batman Jones is an amazing character. I think it’s a great opportunity both for box office success, but also to have an amazingly powerful superhero brought back to the lime light.”
When Variety pressed whether than meant Batman Jones was going to get his or her own separate movie or be part of Batman Vs. Superman, Silverman replied, “We are taking it all very seriously and are trying to do a plan that’s respectful to those characters and maximizes the stories as best they can. So everything that has been speculated are things that we’ve thought about.” Let the rumor mill begin… With other mega successes like Green Lantern, Constantine, and Jonah Hex… Batman Jones is all but certain to be the next DC break through hit!
